Last month, a friend of Kelly told Fox News that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/megyn-kelly-wont-sign-non-disclosure-agreement-if-nbc-news-keeps-spreading-lies-friend-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she wouldn\u2019t sign an NDA<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cif NBC News keeps spreading lies about her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\">Kelly\u2019s attorney, Bryan Freedman<\/a>, and NBC also&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/megyn-kellys-lawyer-rips-nbc-news-boss-andy-lack-over-false-and-irresponsible-reports\" target=\"_blank\">publicly bickered last month before the story fell out of the national spotlight<\/a>&nbsp;as midterm elections approached. Freedman&nbsp;accused NBC of allowing \u201ccompletely false and irresponsible\u201d rumors to circulate, while the network mocked Freedman&nbsp;for negotiating through the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freedman&nbsp;and NBC did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBC announced on Oct. 26 that Kelly\u2019s troubled hour of the NBC News&nbsp;flagship \u201cToday\u201d&nbsp;would not return after her controversial \u201cblackface\u201d remarks. She was only about halfway through a three-year mega contract that pays her $23 million per annum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBC has declared that it won\u2019t speak about Kelly until the exit negotiations are complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelly\u2019s fate at NBC was essentially sealed when she pondered why \u201cblackface\u201d is frowned upon during a live panel discussion last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut what is racist?\u201d Kelly asked. \u201cBecause you get in trouble if you\u2019re a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on white face for Halloween\u2026 back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing like a character\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"https:\/\/video.foxnews.com\/v\/embed.js?id=5854703226001&amp;w=466&amp;h=263\"><\/script><noscript>Watch the latest video at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\">foxnews.com<\/a><\/noscript>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After a swift backlash, Kelly offered a heartfelt apology and even received a&nbsp;standing ovation from the in-studio audience \u2013 but that wasn\u2019t good enough for NBC News Chairman Andy Lack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many industry insiders feel that the \u201cblackface\u201d scandal provided NBC with an opportune excuse to dump the high-paid host. Kelly,&nbsp;a champion of the #MeToo movement,&nbsp;had irked network honchos by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/404960-nbcs-megyn-kelly-calls-for-outside-investigation-of-nbcs-approach-to-weinstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">taking on-air shots at NBC for not hiring an independent law firm<\/a>&nbsp;to conduct an investigation into the culture of the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Daily Beast&nbsp;published a bombshell report in September that detailed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/again-and-again-accused-sexual-harassers-kept-their-jobs-under-nbc-news-chief-andy-lack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lack\u2019s history&nbsp;of using nondisclosure and separation agreements<\/a>&nbsp;to his advantage. The story also noted that Lack was \u201cannoyed\u201d Kelly insisted \u201con turning the show into a regular forum for the alleged victims of powerful men.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lack\u2019s news division has been long under fire for refusing to air Ronan Farrow\u2019s reporting on now-disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein&#8217;s sexual misconduct.
