In an article on Billboard\u2019s website, John Branca, co-executor of Michael\u2019s Estate, speaks of the repercussions of the recent documentary \u2018Leaving Neverland.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Branca, Howard Weitzman and Bryan Freedman<\/a><\/strong>, were the main participants in the panel discussion at Harvard\u2019s Institute of Politics in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The discussion was titled \u2018Trial by Media: Guilty Until Proven Innocent\u2019 and they explained to the audience that they were not only going to defend Michael\u2019s reputation, but rebuild it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With reference to the documentary Mr Branca told Billboard after the event; \u201cThose people made up a goddamn story because they wanted money and we will not allow that to go unchecked. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then said that the law surrounding defamation should be re-evaluated. \u201cBecause the laws of defamation are what they are, there is nothing we can do or say. The man can be damaged, his kids can be hurt and theoretically nothing can be done. I\u2019m going to suggest the law should be changed to protect the deceased at least for a period of time. Because it\u2019s about the truth, it\u2019s about fairness, and it\u2019s about balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dan Reed\u2019s documentary is replete with inaccuracies, lies and stuff they knew not to be true. They should be ashamed of themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the presentation Mr Branca said; \u201cI knew the man, I had my feelings about the man and I don\u2019t like what has happened where you can\u2019t hear the other side of the story. There are real world implications and repercussions when somebody says something like was said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the point of view of society, I want to make it so people feel comfortable saying, \u2018I love Michael\u2019s music.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
