I am grateful for so many wonderful experiences over the past 16 years and am excited for my next chapter!<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SteeleStrong?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SteeleStrong<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Sage Steele (@sagesteele) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sagesteele\/status\/1691437577797337088?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 15, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/center>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2022, Steele\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/sports\/sage-steele-sues-espn-after-getting-benched-for-questioning-covid-vaccine-and-obamas-ethnicity\/\">filed the suit against ESPN<\/a>\u00a0and The Walt Disney Company \u2014 which owns ESPN \u2014 after she felt she was retaliated against for comments made on former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler\u2019s podcast in 2021. On that episode, she criticized Disney\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. She also notably questioned former President\u00a0<strong>Barack Obama<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 who is biracial \u2014 for choosing to identify as black in the U.S. census.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steele claimed she was suspended for two days after making the comments and was forced to issue an apology. ESPN denied suspending her as she was supposedly recovering from COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late June, ESPN offered Steele a $501,000 settlement \u201cto cover \u2018reasonable\u2019 attorney fees,\u201d according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/frontofficesports.com\/espn-offers-sage-steele-501k-to-settle-lawsuit\/\"><em>Front Office Sports<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\"><strong>Bryan Freedman<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Steele\u2019s attorney<\/a> \u2014 interpreted the offer at the time as an admission of guilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDisney and ESPN clearly admit their liability by offering to pay Sage Steele more than half a million dollars for taking away her right to free speech,\u201d Freedman said. \u201cThe offer misses the point. Disney cannot purchase their employee\u2019s constitutional rights no matter how powerful they think they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow about apologizing and treating people fairly? Let me put it this way, would Disney be willing to accept money from the state of Florida and Governor&nbsp;<strong>(Ron) DeSantis<\/strong>&nbsp;in exchange for being silenced?
