{"id":25339,"date":"2023-04-03T20:18:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-04T03:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/?p=25339"},"modified":"2024-10-31T17:25:02","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T00:25:02","slug":"offset-fighting-with-record-label-quality-control-for-rights-to-solo-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/news\/entertainment\/offset-fighting-with-record-label-quality-control-for-rights-to-solo-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Offset Fighting with Record Label Quality Control for Rights to Solo Work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>OFFSET<\/strong>: <strong>I&#8217;M RAP&#8217;S TAYLOR SWIFT&#8230; Fighting for Music Rights<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/people\/offset\/\"><strong>Offset<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>is taking a cue from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/people\/taylor-swift\/\"><strong>Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>, because he&#8217;s beefing with his own label over ownership of his solo recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Migos rapper is the middle of a bitter legal war with Quality Control Music, and according to new legal docs, obtained by&nbsp;<strong>TMZ Hip Hop<\/strong>, the saga began in 2013 when Offset agreed to produce solo records for the label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things were well and good until 2015 when Offset claims Quality Control entered into a separate deal with Capitol Records &#8212; the result of which was QC ended up owning 100% of any future Offset solo records created between 2018 and 2023. We&#8217;ll come back to that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a response, filed by his <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\">attorney&nbsp;<strong>Bryan Freedman<\/strong><\/a>, Offset claims everything changed in 2021, when he and QC broke up and hammered out a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2022\/08\/24\/offset-quality-control-records-complaint-migos\/\"><strong>new deal<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;where he regained control of his solo work for everything he produced from January 2021 forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Quality Control says not so fast &#8230; the label claims it still holds the rights to Offset&#8217;s solo music based on the prior deal with Capitol Records, an argument Offset now insists is ridiculous.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Offset-performing-Getty_Images-TMZ.jpg\" alt=\"Offset Bad and Boujee on stage (Getty Images\/TMZ)\" class=\"wp-image-25054\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Offset Bad and Boujee on stage (Getty Images\/TMZ)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The way Offset sees it &#8230; QC walked away from the rights to his music when it cut the new deal with him in 2021, and he alone controls his solo masters from that point on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, there&#8217;s a ton of money at stake in this dispute, which is working its way through the courts &#8230; and it&#8217;s hard not to compare the situation to what we&#8217;ve seen in the past with Taylor fighting her old record label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, TS&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2019\/11\/14\/taylor-swift-scooter-braun-blocking-song-performance-amas\/\"><strong>stood up for her rights<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;against Big Machine Records over ownership to her masters.
