But on Thursday,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/01\/17\/grammys-ceo-deborah-dugan-put-on-administrative-leave-just-10-days-before-show\/?_ga=2.149198773.2070725386.1579114947-132223664.1563816343\">it announced that she\u2019d been put on leave<\/a>&nbsp;because \u201ca formal allegation of misconduct [was made against her] by a senior female [staff] member.\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/01\/16\/arts\/music\/grammys-deborah-dugan-misconduct.html\">The New York Times reported<\/a>&nbsp;that an assistant \u2014 whom she had inherited from previous boss Neil Portnow \u2014 had accused her of bullying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a source close to Dugan tells us that is iffy, and they suspect that she got the boot after sending a memo to the academy\u2019s HR department three weeks ago, in which she said that \u201csomething was seriously amiss at the Academy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIs the Recording Academy trying to shut up people who want to speak about their experience with the truth of sexual harassment, financial impropriety and [improper] insider benefits?\u201d said an insider, referring to the misconduct that Dugan had planned to expose. \u201cAre they enforcing a confidentiality agreement where someone [can\u2019t] speak their truth? This is so sad \u2014 [the Academy is] a boys\u2019 club.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\">Dugan\u2019s now hired leading Hollywood attorney Bryan Freedman<\/a>, who is also representing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/tag\/gabrielle-union\">Gabrielle Union<\/a>\u00a0in her row with NBC following her exit from \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Freedman said that more information will be \u201cexposed\u201d at a later date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWhat has been reported [in the press] is not nearly the story that needs to be told,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen our ability to speak is not restrained by a 28-page contract and legal threats, we will expose what happens when you \u2018step up\u2019 at the Recording Academy, a public nonprofit.\u201d<\/p><cite>Bryan Freedman<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Portnow was fired after he was heavily criticized for saying that female artists needed to \u201cstep up\u201d if they were to be more successful at the Grammys.
