Results of the America’s Got Talent<\/em> investigation are expected to be concluded “by the end of January”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NBC is speaking out about the ongoing investigation regarding Gabrielle Union<\/a>\u2018s controversial firing from America\u2019s Got Talent<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In mid-November, news broke that Union and fellow judge Julianne Hough<\/a> \u2014 who joined season 14 of AGT<\/em> in February 2019, replacing spots previously held by Mel B<\/a> and Heidi Klum<\/a> \u2014 would not be returning<\/a> for the 15th season. The announcement stirred up a controversy<\/a> over Union\u2019s reported allegations of racial insensitivities on set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, during the network\u2019s Television Critics Association press tour, president of NBC Entertainment Paul Telegdy shared that the show is \u201cin the middle of an investigation,\u201d calling it \u201creally serious.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t deny it, and that\u2019s being handled by lawyers,\u201d added Telegdy, who said the results of the investigation should be available \u201cby the end of January.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telegdy explained that as the investigation continues, \u201cwe certainly take anyone\u2019s critique who comes to work here incredibly seriously,\u201d adding, \u201cif we learn something, we\u2019ll certainly put new practices in place, if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the reports of AGT<\/em>\u2018s mistreatment, Telegdy maintains the reality competition show as \u201cmagnificent\u201d and \u201ca place where you see lives changed forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Nov. 26 report by Variety<\/em><\/a> claimed that while working on the show, Union expressed concerns over a joke allegedly made by guest judge Jay Leno<\/a> that was later edited out of the episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report also claimed both Union and Hough said they were subjected to \u201cexcessive notes\u201d on their physical appearance, sources alleged in Variety<\/em>\u2018s report. In one instance, Union reportedly said she was told her ever-changing hairstyles were \u201ctoo black\u201d for AGT<\/em>\u2018s audience, while Hough reportedly said she received constant criticism on her hair, makeup and wardrobe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hough previously denied she had a negative experience on the show and said she was \u201chappy to continue my working relationship with NBC.\u201d Hough later spoke out in support of Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union revealed on Dec. 4 that she sat down with NBC and AGT <\/em>production company following reports that she expressed concerns over racial insensitivity and a toxic culture at the show, which is produced by Fremantle and Simon Cowell<\/a>\u2018s company Syco Entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a joint statement, Syco Entertainment, Fremantle and NBC said, \u201cWe remain committed to ensuring a respectful workplace for all employees and take very seriously any questions about workplace culture. We are working with Ms. Union through her representatives to hear more about her concerns, following which we will take whatever next steps may be appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union also tweeted about the talk, writing, \u201cWe had a lengthy 5-hour, and what I thought to be, productive meeting<\/a> yesterday. I was able to again, express my unfiltered truth. I led with transparency and my desire and hope for real change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cowell has reportedly enlisted longtime Hollywood litigator Larry Stein as his legal representation. (Union is working with Megyn Kelly\u2019s former attorney Bryan Freedman.)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe initial conversation was candid and productive,\u201d an NBC spokesperson said in a statement to PEOPLE about their sit-down with Union. \u201cWhile there will be a further investigation<\/a> to get a deeper understanding of the facts, we are working with Gabrielle to come to a positive resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
