{"id":13157,"date":"2019-11-16T19:30:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-17T03:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ftllp.net\/?p=13157"},"modified":"2024-11-01T17:49:59","modified_gmt":"2024-11-02T00:49:59","slug":"patricia-heatons-husband-accused-of-inappropriate-touching-on-set-of-cbs-carols-second-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/news\/entertainment\/patricia-heatons-husband-accused-of-inappropriate-touching-on-set-of-cbs-carols-second-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Patricia Heaton&#8217;s Husband Accused of Inappropriate Touching on Set of CBS&#8217; Carol&#8217;s Second Act"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-david-hunt-did-not-remember-the-details-as-described-his-lawyer-told-the-nbsp-new-york-times\">David Hunt &#8220;did not remember the details as described,&#8221; his lawyer told the&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Two female writers on&nbsp;<em>Carol\u2019s Second Act<\/em>&nbsp;left their jobs on the show after David Hunt, star&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/patricia-heaton\/\">Patricia Heaton<\/a>\u2018s husband and an executive producer on the sitcom, allegedly exhibited inappropriate behavior on set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Writer Broti Gupta \u201ccomplained to human resources\u201d about Hunt allegedly touching her inappropriately during her time on set, according to the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/11\/16\/business\/media\/cbs-female-writers-misconduct.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/em>Co-executive producer Margee Magee also had a complaint to human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gupta, 25, went to human resources with complaints of Hunt inappropriately touching her on two separate occasions, one of which she claimed he put his hand on her thigh and the other when he allegedly grabbed her shoulders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\">Heaton and Hunt\u2019s lawyer Bryan Freedman<\/a> told the&nbsp;<em>Times<\/em>&nbsp;that Hunt \u201cdid not remember the details as described\u201d and that Hunt \u201cdoes not recall rubbing anyone\u2019s thigh or leg and he disputes that characterization of it.\u201d In his statement, Freeman added that Hunt \u201cremembers looking for a script but does not remember the detail of touching anyone\u2019s shoulders, and if he did that, it was not intended to be offensive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freedman and reps for Heaton did not immediately respond to PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gupta allegedly told human resources that she did not want Hunt to be fired, but to go through sexual harassment training instead, which CBS said Hunt had \u201ccooperated fully with the process,\u201d according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA claim of unprofessional behavior was made by a writer regarding one of the show\u2019s executive producers. The complaint was reported by a producer to the showrunners, who immediately alerted the production company and the Studio. The matter was promptly investigated by human resources, and appropriate action was taken to address the complaint. The executive producer cooperated fully with the process,\u201d the network said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunt completed a sexual harassment training on Oct. 1, the&nbsp;<em>Times&nbsp;<\/em>stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, after sharing her complaint with human resources, Gupta claims she was \u201cstripped of her responsibilities\u201d and wasn\u2019t allowed to be a part of certain rehearsals. \u201cThat gave me no option but to leave the show,\u201d she told the&nbsp;<em>Times.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Magee, 43, shared she felt similar consequences at work. While she \u201cdid not want to leave,\u201d she claims she felt as if she was not given her usual writing responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBS denied both women\u2019s claims in the statement, saying the network \u201clooked into allegations of retaliatory conduct by the showrunners at the time they were raised, and we found no evidence of retaliatory intent in their interactions with the writer or the producer,\u201d adding, \u201cIn particular, their decisions about the writers\u2019 procedure during rehearsals and tapings were creatively motivated to streamline their production process and were already being discussed prior to the complaint.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Magee claims the network did not \u201cenforce the new protocol\u201d of sexual harassment training after raising their complaints. \u201cIn truth, the people who are there to enforce the new protocol just don\u2019t do it,\u201d she told the&nbsp;<em>Times<\/em>. \u201cAll we wanted was for him to watch like a 45-minute harassment video. None of this had to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<em>Times<\/em>, the network sent Hunt a \u201cclosure letter\u201d that read: \u201cYour behavior caused the individual who raised the concerns to feel genuinely uncomfortable in the workplace and it reflected a disregard for CBS\u2019 policies and guidance in the matter. You are hereby cautioned not to engage in such behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its statement to PEOPLE, CBS also said, \u201cOur human resources team always endeavors to address issues in a professional and sensitive manner, and we must clarify that certain allegations about them have either been misstated or taken wholly out of context.
