{"id":10527,"date":"2009-04-21T20:20:00","date_gmt":"2009-04-22T03:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ftllp.net\/?p=10527"},"modified":"2024-11-03T16:22:05","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T00:22:05","slug":"closing-arguments-heard-in-britney-restraining-order-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/news\/entertainment\/closing-arguments-heard-in-britney-restraining-order-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Closing Arguments Heard in Britney Restraining Order Case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>After three hours of closing arguments Tuesday, no ruling was made on whether to extend a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/people\/article\/0,,20256164,00.html\">restraining order<\/a>&nbsp;against&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/britney-spears\/\">Britney Spears<\/a>\u2018s ex-manager Sam Lutfi and attorney Jon Eardley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The singer\u2019s father Jamie, who initially filed the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/people\/article\/0,,20256164,00.html\">request on Jan. 30<\/a>, alleges that both men have continuously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/people\/article\/0,,20256164,00.html\">harassed his daughter<\/a>, adding that Lutfi smuggled a cell phone to her at a hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samuel Ingham, a court-appointed lawyer for the pop star, 27, told Judge Aviva Bobb, \u201cMy client\u2019s situation has improved dramatically over the last 14 months. [A permanent restraining order against them] is in my client\u2019s best interest \u2026 She has suffered emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\">Bryan Freedman, a lawyer for Lutfi<\/a>, 34, has denied his client committed any wrongdoing, saying Lutfi was merely responding to Spears\u2019s \u201ccries for help,\u201d alleging she was seeking to overturn her father\u2019s legal control over her life. \u201cNot one threat or act or violence was directed at Britney Spears,\u201d Freedman argued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An attorney for Eardley, Roger Diamond, continuously questioned the validity of Jamie\u2019s conservatorship, and argued that Britney authorized Eardley to represent her, although a court has previously ruled that Spears \u201clacks the capacity\u201d to hire her own lawyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hearing will continue on April 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After three hours of closing arguments Tuesday, no ruling was made on whether to extend a&nbsp;restraining order&nbsp;against&nbsp;Britney Spears\u2018s ex-manager Sam Lutfi and attorney Jon Eardley.
