The producers today requested their racketeering allegations against the financiers be dismissed. This filing (<a href=\"https:\/\/pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/07\/dumber-dumber-to-claim-dismissal.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">read it here<\/a>) means, I\u2019ve learned, that the two sides have reached a confidential settlement to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lawsuit\/\">lawsuit<\/a>&nbsp;that Red Granite launched&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2013\/07\/red-granite-lawsuit-dumb-dumber-producers-sequel\/\">last July 15&nbsp;<\/a>to get the franchise\u2019s original producers off the sequel. RGP said at the time that Stabler and Krevoy had no right to be a part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/tag\/universal-pictures\/\">Universal<\/a>\u2013distributed follow-up to the 1994 hit. No right translated into no credits or fees for the producers on the $35 million budget-project. While details were not&nbsp;disclosed, settlements in cases like this mean it\u2019s very likely you\u2019ll see Stabler and Krevoy in the&nbsp;<em>Dumb And Dumber To<\/em>&nbsp;credits now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This wasn\u2019t exactly down to the wire but it was getting close. A hearing on the claims of racketeering and other illegal activity was set for August 19. Even with today\u2019s filing, the case itself is still formally scheduled to go to trial October 9, or just more than&nbsp;a month before the &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/tag\/jim-carrey\">Jim Carrey<\/a>\u2013 and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/tag\/jeff-daniels\">Jeff Daniels<\/a>-starring&nbsp;comedy sequel opens&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2013\/11\/dumb-and-dumber-release-date-november-14-2014\/\">November 15<\/a>, 20 years after the original. However, expect that to disappear from the docket soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Things in the case ever took an underworld turn this year when&nbsp;the defendants alleged that&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/tag\/the-wolf-of-wall-street\/\"><strong><em>The Wolf Of Wall Street<\/em><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;financier RGP was fueled by cash from \u201cill-gotten gains\u201d and \u201cunlawful activities.\u201d Red Granite principal&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/tag\/riza-aziz\"><strong>Riza Aziz<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is the stepson of the Prime Minister of Malaysia and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/01\/wolf-of-wall-street-producers-cease-and-desist-sarawack-report-clare-brown\/\">has been accused by the likes of former UK PM Gordon Brown\u2019s sister-in-law&nbsp;<\/a>of financing the company through illicit&nbsp;funds from that country and others. The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/04\/dumb-dumber-to-financiers-red-granite-lawsuit-illegal-activity\/#more-712427\">March 25 filing&nbsp;<\/a>by Stabler and Krevoy\u2019s attorneys added alleged violations of the much Mob-used RICO Act. No surprise, RGP called the claims \u201cfalse, malicious and baseless\u201d as well as \u201cdemonstrably untrue.\u201d The producers-financiers\u2019 lawyers filed a demurrer&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/04\/dumb-dumber-to-financiers-fire-back-at-producers-over-allegations-of-ill-gotten-gains\/\">on April 29&nbsp;<\/a>to get the RICO claims tossed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite that and a flurry of filings over the past year, there was a hint that something was up in recent weeks between lawyers for RGP\u2019s Aziz and Joey McFarland and Stabler and Krevoy\u2019s, with continuance on hearings filed with the Court.
