Read the company\u2019s full statement&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/1-19-17-ocean-blue-ent-press-release-wm.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PREVIOUSLY, January 19:<\/strong>&nbsp;In a&nbsp;case of overhead and obligation, Chris Columbus\u2019 1492 Entertainment today filed a breach of contract and fraud complaint against Ocean Blue Entertainment and its executives for not paying their bills \u2013 literally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDespite having a written obligation to fund the overhead of 1492, Ocean Blue never intended to honor the terms of that agreement,\u201d said the 11-page, multiple-claim complaint filed today&nbsp;in LA Superior Court (<a href=\"https:\/\/pmcdeadline2.files.wordpress.com\/2017\/01\/1492-jan-18-lasd-complaint-wm.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">read it here<\/a>) of a situation that has seen Columbus\u2019 company have to let several pivotal employees go. \u201c1492 has given Defendants the opportunity to reinstate overhead payments, which would provide for the rehiring of certain operational employees whose salaries and health benefits depended on Defendants\u2019 funding,\u201d the wide-ranging but unspecified damages-seeking filing&nbsp;adds of the investor, with which 1492 has had a financing deal since October 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRather than honor its contractual obligations, Defendants have continued to breach the agreement by spending the last six (6) months stalling and delaying rather than making the required sixty-seven thousand dollar ($67,000) monthly overhead payments to 1492,\u201d the complaint claims of the now-shuttered deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the overhead clause, the agreement of almost five years between the&nbsp;<em>Pixels&nbsp;<\/em>director and Ocean Blue and previous rights holder Rise Entertainment also dealt with a payment of $1 million in annual development funds to 1492. There also was another $1 million in play for an adaption of the 2013 children\u2019s novel&nbsp;<em>House of Secrets,&nbsp;<\/em>which Columbus co-wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before today\u2019s suit, Ocean Blue and 1492 had a seemingly smooth business deal,<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2015\/11\/12-24-movie-chris-columbus-christmas-zag-1201646886\/\">&nbsp;co-producing the Matt Lieberman-penned Christmas pic<em>&nbsp;12\/24<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;and the post-WWII film&nbsp;<em>Exodus 47<\/em>, among other projects. With Thursday\u2019s filing alleging that Ocean Blue lacks the access to \u201cinvestor capital\u201d it promised 1492 and \u201cwere intentionally misrepresenting\u201d themselves, those projects might see some changes \u2014 to put it lightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Unilaterally breaching contractual responsibilities to fund overhead which has a direct effect on employees economic well being is not only legally wrongful but morally reprehensible.
