{"id":10041,"date":"2017-06-13T14:23:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T21:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ftllp.net\/?p=10041"},"modified":"2024-11-03T11:04:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-03T19:04:17","slug":"dumb-and-dumber-producers-sue-new-line-over-sequel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/news\/entertainment\/tv_film\/dumb-and-dumber-producers-sue-new-line-over-sequel\/","title":{"rendered":"Dumb and Dumber&#8217; Producers Sue New Line Over Sequel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-this-lawsuit-follows-an-ugly-legal-battle-between-the-producers-and-red-granite\">This lawsuit follows an ugly legal battle between the producers and Red Granite.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The producers of the original&nbsp;<em>Dumb and Dumber<\/em>&nbsp;say New Line Cinema breached their contract by assigning the rights to the 2014 sequel without offering them the opportunity first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve Stabler and Brad Krevoy are suing New Line for breach of contract and asking the court to make the company keep up its end of their producer agreement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stabler and Krevoy say their 1994 contract gave them each a $200,000 producer fee, a share of New Line&#8217;s net profits and rights of first negotiations for sequels and remakes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, the company assigned the rights in the film to Katja Motion Picture Corporation and Avery Pix, which signed a deal with Red Granite to produce&nbsp;<em>Dumb and Dumber To,&nbsp;<\/em>according to the complaint filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.&nbsp;Under that 2013 agreement, Red Granite indemnified New Line, Katja and Avery from liability for any claim arising from Stabler and Krevoy&#8217;s producer agreement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red Granite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/thr-esq\/dumb-dumber-sequel-red-granite-585635\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sued Stabler and Krevoy<\/a>&nbsp;in 2013 in an effort to keep them out of the production. The producers fired back with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/thr-esq\/lawsuit-claims-wolf-wall-street-694871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a racketeering lawsuit<\/a>&nbsp;the following spring.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/thr-esq\/wolf-wall-street-financier-gets-719078\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The parties settled<\/a>, and now the producers are seeking at least $1 million in damages from New Line.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stabler and Krevoy are represented by <a href=\"https:\/\/dev.creativespikedigital.com\/lftc\/attorneys\/bryan-j-freedman\/\">Bryan Freedman<\/a>, who is asking the court to order New Line to perform under the producer agreement and to issue a declaration that it can&#8217;t produce a&nbsp;<em>Dumb and Dumber<\/em>&nbsp;sequel, or transfer any rights for one, without according the plaintiffs their rights of first negotiation.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/red-granite-what-lies-embattled-company-sales-arm-gone-999009\"><\/a><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This lawsuit follows an ugly legal battle between the producers and Red Granite.
