Megan Colligan<\/a> is pursuing legal action against Paramount<\/a> Pictures, alleging that gender bias and discrimination are behind her exit as head of<\/a> worldwide distribution and marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s been a systemic culture within Paramount<\/a>. <\/p>said Bryan Freedman<\/a>, an Attorney for Colligan, in an interview with Variety.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Generally women were treated unequally and roles and responsibilities were taken away from them and provided to other people.<\/p>added September Rea, a partner at Freedman\u2019s law firm.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Colligan notified Viacom, Paramount\u2019s parent company, and the studio\u2019s human resources department of her claims in a notice of resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedman said that Colligan believes the discrimination against female employees began when Brad Grey was replaced last spring as studio chief by Jim Gianopulos<\/a>. Freedman said that four female executives have departed in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are not aware of any lawsuit having been filed and do not discuss personnel matters, so we have to decline to comment,\u201d said Chris Petrikin, a spokesman for Paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paramount has been struggling with a wave of box office flops over the past year and a half. \u201cTransformers: The Last Knight\u201d disappointed commercially, while the likes of \u201cBaywatch,\u201d \u201cSuburbicon,\u201d and \u201cMother!\u201d all were rejected by audiences. Colligan isn\u2019t the only executive to be forced out. In September, Gianopulos ousted Marc Evans<\/a>, the motion picture group president, and replaced him with Wyck Godfrey, the producer of \u201cThe Fault in Our Stars\u201d and \u201cTwilight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the exit of Colligan and other female executives, a source close to the situation points out that Paramount has tapped Mireille Soria to run animation, promoted Elizabeth Raposo to president of production, and upped Syrinthia Studer to head of acquisitions since Gianopulos has taken over the studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can tell you Megan isn\u2019t the only person within Paramount\u2019s senior executive women who I have spoken to about gender discrimination. It\u2019s not one person claiming something. It exists systemically. We intend to pursue this legal claim until this systemic problem is remedied.<\/em><\/p>said Freedman.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
